We redirect the heat generated during production and in our server rooms and use it to heat our buildings in the cold months. We have already saved over 18 tons of plastic and expect that number to grow per year! That‘s roughly the weight of a tower credit cards stacked as high as the Zugspitze (approx. 3.000 m) – the highest mountain peak in Germany. We now deliver almost all hand hygiene products in our portfolio in reduced-plastic bottles. This not only reduces the amount of plastic used, but reduces CO2 emissions in the supply chain as a result of the reduced weight. Dr. Schumacher is leading the way in our industry with use of environmentally -friendly ingredients and materials. Our DESOTEX organic fleece, which can be found in DESCOSEPT SENSITIVE WIPES Bio, is biodegradable and made from 100% renewable raw materials, allowing for al- ternative disposal methods. Additionally, the structure of the organic fleece material brings with it additional performance benefits such as better cleaning perfor- mance and a extended range of coverage over other products that use traditional polyester blends. This not only saves time in the application, but also materials. We have more than doubled our use of DESO- TEX organic fleece in the past two years. Almost every second wipe at our facilities in Poland is now made from DESOTEX or- ganic fleece. We’ve also switched to 100% organic ethanol for all of our disinfectants. Extending the lifecycle As the EU‘s largest wipes producer, we use a significant amount of plastic film in our packaging. We prioritize the use of recy- clable films, so-called mono-composite films, as well as films made from post- industrial and post-consumer recyclate and. What sounds like a simple switch is not always easy to implement. We have to ensure that the more ecologically made plastics still meet our standards and ensure the safety and effectiveness of the products. We’ve managed to increase the proportion of recyclable films to 60% in the last two years and are already planning to use 80% mono-composite films by the end of 2024.

Oxidative formula gentle on materials and the environment! surfaces can be reused quickly. The products are especially recommended for environments where, in addition to com- fortable and time-saving application, high hygiene requirements must also be met. Biocompatible ingredients3 ULTRASOL OXY consists of 99% biode- gradable active ingredients3. The active ingredients peracetic acid and hydrogen peroxide break down into ecologically harmless oxygen, water and vinegar. In addition, the products are phenol and aldehyde free and have no carcinogenic properties. ULTRASOL OXY also has a high level of material and product compatibili- ty due to its oxidative basis. High-level infection prevention Surfaces and medical devices in particular are very high contact zones and require careful cleaning and disinfection. Based on our Prevent, Preserve and Protect spectrum, this second color allows users to quickly select the appropriate disinfection level for each situation. Hygiene Levels | Dr. Schumacher 21 COLOR-CODED EFFICACY INDICATORS Safety Made Simple at Dr. Schumacher EVEN BEFORE COVID, VIRUSES WERE ONE OF THE MANY PATHOGENS THAT CAUSE SERIOUS DISEASES, ESPECIALLY IN OLDER AND IMMUNO-COMPROMISED PEOPLE. VIRAL PATHOGENS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MAJORITY OF NOSOCOMIAL OUTBREAKS IN HEALTHCARE AND ELDER CARE FACILITIES. V iruses can be divided into two categories: enveloped and non-enveloped. Enveloped viruses, including the corona virus, can be easily inactivated due to an outer wall that is easily penetrated by chemical substances. Non-enveloped viruses, such as the noro or coxsackie viruses, are more difficult for chemicals to penetrate. Noro-, rota- and adenovi- ruses are responsible for the majority of outbreaks. According to a study by the Robert Koch Institute from 2016, 74% of all nosocomial outbreaks are caused by noroviruses alone. On the scale of penetra- bility, noroviruses fall somewhere between enveloped and non-enveloped viruses. Efficacy Spectrums Dr. Schumacher’s color coding helps quickly identify the level of efficacy offered by each product – Blue for Prevent, Green for Preserve and Red for Protect hy- giene levels. For specific product efficacy information, it is still important to consult the product information sheet or label as concentrations and contact times vary between products. Prevent Level Disinfectants at our Prevent level are primarily for use in the public areas of healthcare facilities. Their spectrum of efficacy is sufficient for low risk areas like entrances, waiting rooms and corridors and prevent unnecessary infections in visitors and otherwise healthy people. Effi- cacies include bactericidal, yeasticidal and all enveloped viruses such as HIV, corona and influenza viruses. products are used in isolated areas of medical facilities such as intensive care units or oncology and are also appropri- ate for general use in case of outbreaks. Protect level products minimize the risk of patients acquiring additional infectious diseases, thereby protecting people’s health. Protect level products offer broad and comprehensive efficacies adding mycobactericidal, fully virucidal and sporicidal to their claims.2 Preserve Level Hygiene Levels in the Catalogue Most of the products in this catalog are color-coded to match our hygiene levels, which allows you to identify the efficacy spectrum at a glance. Product specific ta- bles also include contact times and dosage recommendations based on realistic and practical product applications. The Preserve level is ideal for environ- ments with higher demands on disinfec- tion and hygiene for patient safety. Dr. Schumacher 39 Contact times for surface disinfection Compliance with contact times is essential to ensure successful hygiene with surface disinfection. Accord- ing to the Robert Koch Institute, routinely disinfected surfaces can be used again once they are visibly dry. There are, however, exceptions for which the contact time for surface disinfection must be observed. What is the one-hour value? With the one-hour value, concentrates are dosed in such a way that the solution becomes effective after a contact time of one hour. This value is used in high risk areas in particular. It is important to note that once the disinfected surface is visibly dry, it can be used again irrespective of the one-hour contact time. Most microorganisms are inactivated at the start of the contact time. In which situations must the given contact time be observed before the surface can be reused? • With targeted disinfection when there is a risk of germ transmission from a surface to a patient • With final disinfection • When reprocessing medical devices • When disinfecting baths Should surfaces have to be reused quickly on a regular basis, the use of rapidly effective disinfectants is recommended.
