As a medium-sized business owner, you sometimes get the feeling that you are operating in a rather non-friendly business environment. Investing in Germany? In a survey of the 500 largest family businesses conducted last year by the ifo Institute, a Munich based economic research institution, showed that more than half of the companies surveyed want to invest more abroad in the future and less in Germany. If investments in this country are less fruitful and products can no longer be brought to market in a reasonable time and at globally competitive prices due to over-regulation, it is logical that companies will look for solutions elsewhere. We at Dr. Schumacher GmbH still want to invest in Germany. As a family and a family business, we have a special kind of connection to our Beiseförth location where Dr. Schumacher began. As a family business, we do not make decisions based solely on monetary considerations. Nevertheless, we hope for a friendlier framework and conditions from the German government and the EU that confirm my decision to continue invest locally. German Packaging Awards Seal Success under difficult conditions The difficult economic conditions the past few years have made me even more proud of our successes. However, it is important that industry regulators prioritize common sense so that we can make quicker and more productive adjust- ments to important parameters – towards greater hygiene safety and health. Until then, the best way out is right through it, and we will continue working on what we are really good at: tailor-made solutions for the requirements of our customers with innovative and highly effective products that protect our health and conserve resources. Innovations and awards Product developments, such as our ULTRASOL OXY family are suitable for even the most sensitive areas with increased requirements. Due to its oxidative basis, the formula is also broadly compatible with nearly all materials. And because the active ingredients are 99 % biodegradable, ULTRASOL OXY family products leave no environmentally harmful residues. As the wipes specialists, we are especially proud that ULTRASOL OXY Wipes are the first ready-to-use wipes that are fully sporicidal in accordance with the latest EU standard EN17846. Our new, recycled material packaging was recently awarded first place in sustainabil- ity at the German Packaging Awards. The award-winning packaging consists of 30 % recycled components from reprocessed beverage packaging while still meeting the high requirements for protection, hygiene and functionality. Last but not least: our hand disinfectant ASEPTOMAN MED is the first hand dis- infectant ever to be recommended by the German Allergy and Asthma Association (DAAB). WITH OUR PRODUCTS WE GUARANTEE THAT WE GO ABOVE AND BEYOND THE HIGHEST REQUIREMENTS. ULTRASOL OXY is also meets the higher requirements presented in the new stan- dard EN 17846:2024 for sporicidal efficacy and was the first disinfectant to achieve efficacy against this Norm. In order to make identifying product effi- cacy easier for the user, we developed the Dr. Schumacher hygiene levels (see page 20). This makes selecting the appropriate product for your disinfection needs quicker and safer. To see how our products go above and beyond the applicable EN standards, look no further than ULTRASOL OXY. This oxida- tive-based disinfectant meets our hygiene level PROTECT and is therefore considered bactericidal, yeasticidal, virucidal and spori- cidal according to the applicable standards. E specially in professional healthcare settings, people must be able to rely on the promised effectiveness of disinfection products in order to guarantee hygienic safety for users and patients. But also at home, we must be able to trust that “what is on the label is what is inside”. Dr. Schumacher has provided this security for over 45 years, developing and producing disinfection and hygiene solutions that meet the highest quality requirements. Our work is based on international standards and our products are regularly tested to ensure that they continuously meet and exceed the regulatory requirements. This expertise can also be felt in the production of our consumer goods for household, baby care, cosmetics and personal care, which you can find on the shelves of drugstores and retail stores. We enable safe hygiene – everywhere, all the time. Reliable quality standards Few industries are as strictly regulated as ours. There are strict European Norms (EN) tests for chemical disinfectants and antisep- tics that dictate which efficacy requirements a product must meet. This ensures, among other things, that product effectiveness is independently tested and confirmed for efficacy against different microorganisms (e.g. bactericidal, yeasticidal, virucidal). The basic test standards for the approval and sale of chemical disinfectants and antisep- tics are defined by DIN EN 14885 - both for medical and non-medical products as well as for biocides. It specifies which EN test ap- plies to which area and segment of hygiene.
EN Norms | Dr. Schumacher 11 To ensure that disinfectants work within specified times and comply with their advertised spectrum of efficacy, they are tested in the laboratory under realistic conditions. With the help of two-stage test procedures (phase 2 tests), laboratories can ensure compliance with existing standards and thus ensure that the products actually meet the requirements. With a quantitative suspension test (phase 2, step 1), a laboratory simulates in a test tube whether the disinfectant is able to inacti- vate a specified number of germs within a predefined time when a contaminant is added. The substance helps simulate a contamination on a surface. The maximum exposure time within the effective range is determined by the area of application (near or far from the patient) and is specified in EN 14885. Test results based on quantita- tive suspension tests make it possible to compare disinfectants within Europe. In order to get even closer to practical con- ditions, various surface or germ carrier tests (phase 2, step 2) were developed. In these tests, disinfectants are applied to surfaces, skin, or other germ carriers under realistic conditions. For surfaces, the 4-field test was developed to simulate real life wiping of a surface. A pre-soaked cloth with a disinfectant solution is moved with a defined contact pressure over four fields of equal size, one after the other. The first field has been pre- viously contaminated with a test organism and the three further fields are kept sterile until the start of the test. After wiping and at the end of the exposure time, all four fields are then examined and evaluated for microbiological contamination. OCT 2024 Dr. Schumacher combines global reach with regional roots. This combination of international com- mitment and local roots offers our customers significant advantages. We have been working closely with suppliers all over the world for over 45 years. The structures of our supply chains are designed in such a way that they already meet the require- ments of the German Supply Chain Act, despite the fact that we are not yet subject to the legal obligation. We do this through well-thought-out and targeted manage- ment. EcoVadis, an independent sustain- able supply chain auditor, has awarded us several times for our proactive measures. Our goal is to share our knowledge and experience with you. When it comes to sustainable hygiene or cleaning solutions, we are your expert. We offer optimal conditions with our products in connection with envi- ronmental protection. Our headquarters is powered by 100 % green electricity from re- gional, renewable energy. In 2018, we opened our new office building, which is optimized for minimal electricity and energy consump- tion. We even use heat byproducts generated during production or in our server rooms to heat our buildings in the cold months. We work every day to further reduce our direct and indirect environmental impact. You can read about this in our environ- mental statement, which has been certified according to the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) for the thirteenth time in a row. In it, we annually review our CO2 emissions, water and energy consump- tion, and critically identify where we want to further improve. Our research and development as well as a significant production is still located in northern Hesse, where our company was founded. Our region has given us a lot. Our new wet wipes packaging for all-purpose wipes won first place in the German Packaging Award in the sustainability cate- gory, because it is made from recycled parts of processed beverage packaging. The new packaging meets the highest requirements for functionality and protection of the pack- aged products without compromising on environmental compatibility or hygiene. 14 Dr. Schumacher | Resources Resources SUSTAINABILITY FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AND OUR HEALTH THE USE OF RENEWABLE AND ECOLOGICALLY SENSIBLE RAW MATERIALS IS MORE IMPORTANT TODAY THAN EVER TO PROMOTE PRODUCT SAFETY AND TO PROTECT BOTH OUR ENVIRONMENT AND THE HEALTH OF FUTURE GENERATIONS. OUR GOAL IS TO SUPPORT OUR CUSTOMERS AND USERS IN USING MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PRODUCTS. E ffective environmental protection isn’t only using fewer and fewer resources – it’s also more organic ingredients and more environmen- tally friendly packaging. We have already switched to renewable raw materials where permitted in the industry and in the inter- est of the safety of our products and exist- ing regulations. We use resources more efficiently through reuse and recycling. We ensure that our suppliers use recycled versions of energy-intensive raw materials such as paper and packaging films. We’ve also reduced the consumption of important resources such as electricity and water to a minimum at our locations. Our primary goal remains to make hygiene safe and easy to use – and to ensure that it remains so in the future. Pioneering solutions for a healthy environment We switched our 500 ml bottles to a 13 % lighter version. The result? Over 18 tons of plastic saved per year! That is roughly the weight of a tower of stacked credit cards that reaches almost to the top of the Zugspitze – the highest mountain in Germany. We now deliver almost all of the hand hygiene prod- ucts in our portfolio in the reduced plastic bottle. In addition to reducing plastic con- sumption, the lighter packaging reduces the weight of transport and significantly reduces CO2 emissions in the logistics chain. Our DESOTEX organic fleece, found in our DESCOSEPT SENSITIVE WIPES Bio, is made from 100% renewable raw materials. This al- lows alternative disposal options, as both the soaking solution and the fleece material are biodegradable. In addition, the structure of the fleece traps dirt even better. A larger area can be cleaned with a single wipe compared to other comparable wipe products. This not only saves time, but above all material. In the past 2 years, we have more than doubled the production of our wipes with DESOTEX organic fleece. Almost every second wipe is now made from DESOTEX organic fleece. We also use organic ethanol in our disinfec- tants, which is obtained from 100% natural raw materials. Promote recycling, conserve resources As the largest wipe producer in the EU, we use a significant amount of packaging films for our wipe products. We are constantly changing and optimizing the sustainability of these films: not only to recyclable films, so-called mono-composite films, but increas- ingly to films made from post-industrial recycled material and – where it’s allowed – to post-consumer recycled material. What sounds like obvious solutions are not always easy to implement with regard to the safety and effectiveness of professional disinfectant products. Nonetheless we have managed to increase the proportion of recyclable films to 60 % in the last two years. Along with our cooperation partners, we have just been awarded first place in the German Packaging Award in the sustainability category for the use of recycled materials in our wet wipe packaging for all-purpose wipes. Our next goal is therefore clear: to increase the propor- tion of mono-composite films to 80 %!

Dr. Schumacher 17 Time-saving application thanks to short contact times1 Oxidative formula gentle on materials and the environment Broad spectrum of efficacy2 for areas requiring high-level disinfection surfaces can be reused quickly. The pro- ducts are especially recommended for envi- ronments where, in addition to comfortable and time-saving application, high hygiene requirements must also be met. Biocompatible ingredients3 ULTRASOL OXY consists of 99% biode- gradable active ingredients3. The active ingredients peracetic acid and hydrogen peroxide break down into ecologically harmless oxygen, water and acetic acid. In addition, the products are phenol and aldehyde free and have no carcinogenic properties. ULTRASOL OXY also has a high level of material and product compatibility due to its oxidative basis. High-level infection prevention Surfaces and medical devices in particular are very high contact zones and require careful cleaning and disinfection. The active ingredients peracetic acid and hydrogen peroxide used in the ULTRASOL OXY products disinfect medical devices and surfaces of all kinds quickly and reliably, reducing the risk of infection to patients and medical personnel.
